Replacing a squad of 22 council-funded parks police with 16 Met officers could be illegal, unions have warned. Wandsworth council says the move would save about £800,000. The uniformed officers patrol the borough’s 1,600 acres of parks and open space, have powers of arrest and carry police-style baton and handcuffs.
