Labour Councillors in Tooting and Graveney have recently been contacted by residents throughout the area who are concerned about the possible closure of Derinton Road Community Centre.
Labour Group Leader and Graveney Councillor Rex Osborn said: ‘We believe the Centre is an extremely important resource which must be protected and retained for use by local residents and community groups.’
The centre is on Derinton Road, off Upper Tooting Road (between Franciscan and Blakenham Roads), and is currently home to a nursery, meetings rooms and a large hall for events. It has recently run into some financial difficulties following the loss of some funding, and as a result its future is uncertain.
Labour’s local councillors have already taken this issue up with Wandsworth Council, and will be working closely with them to find a long-term solution to the issues that have threatened the Centre.
